Since the early 1990s and Philip Treacy’s and Stephen Jones’ contributions to catwalk fashion, there have been increasingly interesting millinery looks complementing a designer’s work. I’m thinking in particular of Yamamoto’s giant hat worn by Jodie Kidd in 1998, propped up with bamboo canes, and the black cubes by Nasir Mazhar worn as part of Gareth Pugh’s 2008 collection. This exhibition shows a number of innovative headpieces together with complementing outfits and show just how far millinery has come in terms of artistic endeavor and serious consideration by the fashion world.
